DMT and Globacom Sign MoU to Expand Broadband in Delta State
Delta State’s connectivity could soon improve following a new deal between DISC Media & Telecoms (DMT) and Globacom. The two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to integrate DMT’s metro fiber network with Glo’s national backbone.
The partnership, sealed on September 8 in Lagos, is aimed at expanding broadband coverage, reducing redundant infrastructure, and strengthening last-mile connectivity across the state. For residents and businesses, this could mean faster, more reliable internet access at lower costs.
DMT brings its existing fiber infrastructure within Delta’s urban centers, while Globacom provides nationwide reach through its backbone network. Together, the two hope to bridge a longstanding gap: local networks often lack the scale to connect communities effectively, while national backbones rarely extend deeply enough at the state level.
Details of the rollout, including financial commitments, timelines, and pricing, remain undisclosed. Still, the deal reflects a growing trend in Nigeria’s telecoms sector, operators collaborating to scale infrastructure instead of duplicating it. If successful, it could serve as a model for other regions where broadband access has stalled.
For Delta State, the stakes are high. Improved connectivity can power digital classrooms, healthcare services, and small businesses, while making the state more attractive for investment. Now, all eyes will be on how quickly this MoU translates from paper to practice.
