Airtel Kenya Marks World Teachers’ Day with Free Access to Digital Learning Platforms

Airtel Kenya has announced free access to digital learning platforms as part of its initiative to mark World Teachers’ Day 2025.

The telecom operator said it will zero-rate data access to two educational platforms, the Kenya Education Cloud and Elimika, enabling teachers and students to browse, download, and stream learning materials without incurring data charges.

The announcement was made in partnership with the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) and the Ministry of Education, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance digital learning and teacher development in Kenya.

Free access to Kenya Education Cloud and Elimika

The Kenya Education Cloud, developed by KICD, provides curriculum-aligned content for pre-primary, primary, and junior secondary levels under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). The platform offers a wide range of educational materials, including interactive lessons, e-books, and video tutorials.

Elimika is a teacher-focused platform designed to support professional development and continuous learning. It hosts training materials, teaching methodologies, and educational resources that help teachers upgrade their skills and align with new curriculum standards.

By zero-rating these platforms, Airtel Kenya aims to make it easier for teachers and learners to access quality educational content without being limited by data costs.

Partnership and ongoing initiatives

The move is part of Airtel Africa’s broader partnership with UNICEF, a three-year program valued at $57 million, aimed at increasing access to digital education across several African countries.

In Kenya, the program includes providing 141 public primary schools with 300 GB of free monthly data to support digital learning using government-issued tablets. The initiative is designed to strengthen access to online learning and support the government’s goal of integrating technology into the education system.

World Teachers’ Day commemoration

World Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually on October 5, recognizing the contribution of teachers to education and society. Airtel Kenya said the initiative reflects its commitment to supporting educators with the tools and access needed to facilitate digital learning and professional growth.

Through these partnerships, the company aims to expand access to educational content for both teachers and learners and contribute to the country’s broader digital transformation goals.
