Rekindle Learning Buys EpiTek to Launch Unified Corporate Training Platform
Rekindle Learning, a South African digital learning company founded by edtech entrepreneur Rapelang Rabana, has acquired fellow edtech startup EpiTek to form a new integrated platform called Rekindle EpiTek.
The deal, announced in mid-September 2025, combines Rekindle Learning’s expertise in performance-driven microlearning with EpiTek’s technology for virtual classrooms and AI-proctored assessments. The acquisition aims to deliver a complete digital training ecosystem for businesses and training institutions across Africa.
While financial terms were not disclosed, the move signals Rekindle Learning’s ambition to scale beyond traditional e-learning and become a pan-African leader in corporate education technology.
Building a Unified Training Experience
Through Rekindle EpiTek, the company plans to integrate every stage of learning and development, from onboarding and compliance training to accredited professional certifications.
The platform will feature:
-
Microlearning modules designed for quick, focused skill development.
-
Live virtual classrooms for interactive corporate training.
-
AI-proctored assessments to ensure examination integrity and compliance.
-
Advanced analytics and reporting to track learning outcomes and employee progress.
This combination bridges a critical gap in Africa’s training industry, where companies often juggle multiple disjointed systems for learning delivery, certification, and performance tracking.
According to Rekindle Learning, the platform will serve both accredited and non-accredited institutions, supporting compliance with South Africa’s Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) and other regulatory frameworks across the continent.
Redefining African Workforce Certification
Africa’s corporate training landscape is rapidly evolving. As more companies digitize their operations, the demand for flexible, measurable, and compliant training solutions has surged.
Most existing systems in Africa either focus on academic e-learning or short-form corporate microcourses. Rekindle EpiTek’s value lies in uniting both, offering the flexibility of mobile microlearning with the rigour of formal, accredited programs.
This hybrid approach could redefine how African organizations train and certify employees, especially in regulated sectors like banking, healthcare, and manufacturing, where compliance and upskilling are mandatory.
A Step Toward a Pan-African Edtech Powerhouse
For Rekindle Learning, the acquisition isn’t just about technology integration. It’s a strategic move to expand beyond South Africa and build a scalable digital training infrastructure for the continent.
The company believes that by combining EpiTek’s SaaS-based education tools with Rekindle’s microlearning model, it can help organizations across Africa manage the full learning lifecycle, from skill acquisition to certification, within a single platform.
“Rekindle EpiTek represents the future of African enterprise learning,” said Rabana. “It’s about giving companies the tools to continuously train, measure, and grow their people at scale.”
The Blueprint for Enterprise Learning
Corporate learning in Africa has often struggled with affordability, access, and relevance. Many imported systems fail to account for local connectivity issues, device limitations, and accreditation requirements.
By creating a platform built for African realities, Rekindle EpiTek may have a head start in localizing enterprise learning, something global platforms like Coursera or LinkedIn Learning often overlook.
Still, success will depend on how well the company executes on scale, pricing, and partnerships. Integrating two platforms with different architectures and maintaining regional compliance across dozens of markets won’t be easy.
But if executed well, Rekindle EpiTek could become a blueprint for how African companies approach workforce development, practical, data-driven, and built on local context.
