Spotify Rolls Out Built-In Tool to Import Playlists From Other Music Services
Spotify is making it easier than ever for listeners to bring their music libraries with them, and it arrives at a moment of heightened competition in the streaming world.
A New Tool in the Battle for Streaming Loyalty
Back in August, Apple Music rolled out a built-in playlist-import feature, conveniently timed as Spotify faced criticism surrounding CEO Daniel Ek and growing artist backlash. Whether or not the controversy drove users to explore alternatives, Apple’s move was unmistakably strategic.
Now, Spotify is responding with its own solution. The company has launched a native playlist transfer feature, giving users a simple way to migrate their collections from rival platforms directly into the Spotify app.
Powered by TuneMyMusic
Rather than building a new system from scratch, Spotify has integrated TuneMyMusic, a long-standing third-party service that already supports transfers between platforms like Tidal, YouTube Music, Qobuz, Beatport, and even Napster.
TuneMyMusic is one of several services offering playlist transfers, Soundiiz and SongShift (which Apple Music relies on) are others, but the difference here is access. While free tiers on these tools often come with limits, using them through Spotify or Apple grants users unlimited, premium-level transfers. The catch: transfers only move into Spotify, not out.
Spotify says the in-app import option is rolling out globally on mobile starting this week.
5 Ways to Unlock More Value From Your Spotify Playlists
Playlists are more than tracklists, they’re archives of moments, moods, and memories. Spotify offers increasingly powerful tools to help you shape, personalize, and share them.

The new TuneMyMusic integration means you no longer have to rebuild your music library from scratch.
To import playlists:

Open Your Library in the Spotify mobile app and scroll to the bottom.
-
Tap “Import your music.”
-
Connect to TuneMyMusic and pick the service you’re moving from.
-
Watch your playlists populate in Spotify, instantly and intact.
2. Customize and Collaborate
Once your playlists are in place, Spotify offers rich creative tools:
-
Invite friends to build shared playlists

Fine-tune playlist transitions for smoother listening
-
Use Smart Filters (in select markets) to organize by mood, energy, genre, or activity
Premium subscribers get even deeper control over how their playlists look, feel, and sound.
3. Kickstart Your Personalization
The moment you start streaming your imported playlists, Spotify’s recommendation engine begins shaping suggestions around your taste. New listeners benefit immediately, editorial playlists like Release Radar, Discover Weekly, and daylist quickly adapt to your musical preferences.
4. Share the Experience
Music is social, and Spotify is doubling down on that:
-
Share playlists and chat about them through Messages (for users 16+ in select markets)

Compare listening habits with friends using Blend
-
Start a real-time listening session with Jam (Premium only)
Whether you’re curating or co-creating, Spotify makes it easy to enjoy music together.
5. Upgrade Your Sound
Spotify Premium users in eligible markets can now stream in Lossless, offering the platform’s highest audio quality yet. And with Spotify supported on more than 2,000 devices, your playlists can follow you everywhere — from your car to your console to your smart speakers.
