Luno and AltSchool Africa Roll Out Africa’s Largest Fully Funded Crypto Education Program

Luno and AltSchool Africa are making a decisive play for crypto literacy on the continent.

The global cryptocurrency platform, founded in Africa, has partnered with AltSchool Africa, a licensed online learning institution, to deliver fully funded crypto education to 15,000 Nigerians. Branded Demystifying Crypto for Africans, the initiative is being positioned as the largest structured crypto education programme ever launched in Africa, and it reflects a broader push to bring credibility, safety, and clarity to digital asset adoption.

At its core, the collaboration is about closing a widening knowledge gap in Africa’s fast-evolving digital finance ecosystem.

Why This Program Matters Now

Crypto adoption across Africa has grown faster than the education needed to support it. In Nigeria alone, an estimated 33% of the population already interacts with digital assets, driven largely by a young, tech-literate demographic seeking alternatives for savings, remittances, and global trade.

Yet that momentum has come with real risks.

Misinformation, speculative hype, and exposure to unregulated platforms have left many users vulnerable. Luno and AltSchool Africa say this programme is designed to tackle that problem head-on, replacing guesswork with structured learning and real-world context.

By combining:

  • Luno’s experience in promoting responsible crypto use, and
  • AltSchool Africa’s track record in accessible digital skills education,

The course aims to equip learners with practical knowledge that reflects African realities, not abstract global use cases.

What the Course Covers

The programme launches in March 2026 and will run throughout the year under the instruction of Web3 specialist Abdulsamad Tiamiyu.

Designed for beginners, the curriculum introduces crypto from the ground up while keeping the focus firmly on everyday use. Topics include:

  • Crypto as a tool for saving and value storage
  • Cross-border remittances and payments
  • Global trading fundamentals
  • Stablecoins and risk management
  • Entrepreneurship and digital finance opportunities

The course is broken into five core modules and can be completed in three to four weeks. Learners retain access to all materials for up to 12 months.

Content delivery blends theory with hands-on learning through:

  • Self-paced video lessons
  • Slides and quizzes
  • Case studies
  • Practical interaction with wallets, exchanges, and stablecoins
  • Research tools such as CoinGecko and Etherscan

Participants who complete the programme and pass all assessments will earn an AltSchool Africa Certificate of Completion.

Building Trust Through Education

For Luno, the initiative is as much about industry credibility as it is about scale.

Ayotunde Alabi, CEO of Luno Nigeria, described the partnership as a strategic intervention in Africa’s digital future:

This initiative is a critical intervention in Africa’s digital ecosystem. As crypto adoption accelerates, formal literacy must keep pace so individuals can engage safely and meaningfully. Our collaboration with AltSchool Africa is a deliberate step toward that goal and a foundational investment in the integrity of the industry. By providing structured, high-quality education, Luno is ensuring that Africans can participate confidently, securely, and sustainably, transforming what is often seen as a risk into tangible economic opportunity.

AltSchool Africa sees the programme as a continuation of its mission to deliver education with measurable impact.

Adewale Yusuf, co-founder and CEO of AltSchool Africa, emphasised the long-term vision behind the partnership:

This partnership between AltSchool and Luno is a major step toward financial education that genuinely serves Africans and equips people with the knowledge and tools to confidently understand and use crypto in practical, life-changing ways. This is more than just a course or partnership; it is an investment in economic empowerment and the future of a continent that deserves every opportunity to fully participate in the global digital economy.

Cohorts, Timeline, and Eligibility

The initiative will be delivered across three cohorts, each accommodating 5,000 learners:

  • Cohort 3:
    Course access begins November 2026

Applications will be submitted via the AltSchool Africa portal, starting in January 2026. Scholarship decisions will be communicated within one week of application.

The Bigger Picture

As crypto moves from the margins into everyday financial life across Africa, education is becoming the real infrastructure layer. This partnership signals a shift from hype-driven adoption to knowledge-led participation.

If successful, it could become a template for how digital asset education is delivered across emerging markets: structured, practical, and built for long-term impact rather than short-term speculation.
