MTN Unveils Unlimited 5G Broadband to Tackle Nigeria’s Data Depletion Crisis

MTN Nigeria has introduced a new line of unlimited 5G broadband plans, positioning the move as a direct answer to the growing frustration Nigerians have been expressing over fast-draining data bundles, rising internet costs, and inconsistent network performance. Over the past year, many customers have complained that regular bundles barely last a few days, especially after recent tariff reviews that pushed the effective cost of 1GB significantly higher. MTN is pitching the unlimited plans as a more predictable solution for heavy users who need stable, high-capacity internet without worrying about data caps.

The plans come in two speed categories, 50 Mbps and 100 Mbps, and are aimed at people who rely heavily on fast, low-latency connections. This includes movie and video streamers, online students, remote workers, competitive gamers, and households running multiple smart devices. To encourage uptake, MTN is offering new 5G router buyers a 30-day unlimited data bonus as part of the welcome package.

Egerton Idehen, MTN’s Chief Broadband Officer, said the goal behind the offering is to deliver a smoother, more dependable internet experience while addressing the issues customers keep raising, such as buffering, lag, and the rapid disappearance of traditional data packages. According to him, the company is focusing on speed, reliability, and affordability as the foundation of its broadband strategy.

MTN is also pushing bundled device-and-data options to make it easier for new customers to get started. These plans can be accessed through the 4611# USSD code, the MyMTN app, the MTN online store, and authorized physical outlets.

In Nigeria’s expanding 5G market, MTN continues to maintain an edge in coverage, top-end speeds, and service consistency, making it the preferred option for users with demanding online needs. Airtel, on the other hand, offers more budget-friendly unlimited 5G router plans with a strong value proposition for users who want stable connectivity in urban areas without paying premium prices. The two operators are effectively competing for different segments of the market: MTN focusing on performance, Airtel focusing on affordability.
