FamGuard Launches as a Free Safety App for Nigerians Amid Rising Insecurity
AceHub Technologies Ltd has launched FamGuard, a free mobile application designed to support public safety and community vigilance across Nigeria. The app is now available on the Google Play Store, with an iOS release expected in the coming months.
FamGuard was developed in response to the growing impact of insecurity on daily life in Nigeria, including kidnappings, community attacks, and slow emergency response times. The platform focuses on early warning, fast communication, and situational awareness, allowing individuals and communities to stay informed during critical moments.
Insecurity has changed how people move, travel, and plan their lives across Nigeria, said Prince Chukwuemeka, Founder and CEO of AceHub Technologies Ltd. FamGuard gives people a way to quickly alert those they trust and share information that helps others stay aware as situations unfold.
Designed for Speed and Real-World Conditions
FamGuard is built around simplicity and speed, prioritising features that work under stress and in challenging environments.
At the centre of the app is a one-tap emergency alert system. With a single tap, users can notify trusted contacts when they feel unsafe, cutting down delays that often occur during emergencies.
The app also includes a decoy lock feature, which hides evidence that an alert has been sent. This ensures that if a phone is taken or accessed by someone else, neither the alert nor its recipients can be identified.
Community Vigilance and Anonymous Reporting
Beyond personal alerts, FamGuard supports community awareness through an incident reporting feature. Users can flag safety concerns in their area, even when the situation is not an immediate emergency.
Reports can be submitted anonymously and are shared with other FamGuard users within a 15- to 20-mile radius. The goal is to help people nearby stay alert and make informed decisions about their movements.
Franklin Okeke, co-founder and chief risk officer of AceHub Technologies Ltd, said the app is built around shared responsibility.
In moments of danger, we all carry a duty of care to one another, Okeke said. FamGuard makes it easier for people to act on that responsibility by giving them a simple way to raise alerts and share incident information when it matters.
How FamGuard Works
After signing up, users can add trusted contacts known within the app as Connections. Invitations can be accepted or declined, ensuring users maintain full control over who receives alerts and updates.
Core features include one-tap emergency alerts that notify trusted contacts during urgent situations, incident reporting to share local safety concerns, connections management for privacy control, check-ins to confirm safety during trips or daily routines, and offline support that keeps core functions usable when connectivity is limited.
A Support Tool, Not a Security Replacement
AceHub Technologies stresses that FamGuard is not designed to prevent crime or replace law enforcement or emergency services. Instead, it serves as a communication and preparedness tool that helps individuals and communities stay informed while formal response systems do their work.
The company positions the app as a layer of visibility and coordination in an environment where response times and access to help can be unpredictable.
