Gabon Opens First Tier III Datacentre to Strengthen Digital Sovereignty
Gabon has inaugurated its first Tier III international-standard datacentre, marking a major milestone in the country's efforts to strengthen digital sovereignty and modernise its digital infrastructure.
The facility was officially inaugurated on 4 July 2026 by President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, who described digital infrastructure as a strategic national asset alongside energy and transport networks.
Supporting Secure Data Hosting
Developed by ST DIGITAL GABON, the Tier III-certified facility is designed to provide secure, reliable and highly available data hosting services for both government institutions and private businesses.
The datacentre will enable Gabon to host sensitive public and private sector data within the country, reducing dependence on foreign infrastructure while strengthening national cybersecurity and digital resilience.
Driving Digital Transformation
Government officials said the new facility will support Gabon's wider digital transformation agenda by providing the infrastructure required for digital public services, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity initiatives and enterprise operations.
The investment is expected to improve the country's digital capabilities while creating a stronger foundation for economic growth, innovation and technology-driven development.
Supporting Local Startups
During the inauguration, the Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalisation and Innovation signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ST DIGITAL GABON to expand access to the new facility.
Under the agreement, startups supported by the ministry will receive access to enterprise-grade hosting services at preferential rates, helping emerging businesses scale their digital operations with secure local infrastructure.
Strengthening Gabon's Digital Economy
The launch reflects Gabon's broader ambition to build a more resilient digital economy by investing in critical infrastructure and supporting local innovation.
By combining world-class data hosting capabilities with initiatives that support startups and entrepreneurs, the government aims to position Gabon as an emerging technology and digital infrastructure hub in Central Africa.
