Ride-hailing platform inDrive has launched a new Trip Audio Recording feature, giving passengers and drivers an additional safety tool to help resolve disputes during trips.

The feature, available through the app's Safety Center, allows either the driver or passenger to manually start an audio recording before or during a ride.

Designed to Support Dispute Resolution

According to inDrive, the recordings are intended to provide additional context when disputes arise over issues such as pick-up locations, waiting times or damage during a trip.

The company said the feature is not designed for continuous surveillance and can only be activated manually by users.

Privacy Built Into the Feature

Unlike always-on recording systems, Trip Audio Recording does not automatically capture conversations or record activity in the background.

inDrive said all recordings are encrypted and cannot be played back, downloaded or shared by users. Audio files can only be accessed using a secure encryption key during the investigation of official complaints submitted through the platform.

The company also noted that recordings will not be shared with third parties unless required by law.

Expanding In-App Safety Tools

The new feature forms part of inDrive's broader efforts to strengthen safety for both riders and drivers.

By giving users the option to record audio during a trip, the company aims to improve confidence on the platform while providing additional evidence when disputes require investigation.
