Spotify Launches AI Running Mode With Personalised Workout Playlists
Spotify has introduced Running Mode, a new AI-powered feature designed to automatically build personalised playlists that match a user's workout style, pace and running intensity.
The feature, available to Spotify Premium subscribers, combines music recommendations with spoken coaching prompts to create a more immersive running experience.
AI builds playlists around your workout
Users can access Running Mode through Spotify's Fitness Hub, where they can choose from 25 workout presets, including interval runs, steady runs and pyramid training.
Runners can customise workout duration, preferred tempo, beats per minute and music genres before Spotify's AI generates a playlist tailored to those preferences.
The feature can also provide audio cues throughout the workout, guiding users through warm-ups, high-intensity intervals and recovery periods.
Spotify expands its AI fitness strategy
The new feature builds on Spotify's growing use of artificial intelligence across the platform.
The company said Running Mode was inspired by user behaviour, with workout playlists emerging as one of the most popular uses of its AI Playlist feature.
Spotify has also expanded into fitness partnerships in recent months, including integrations with Peloton, as competition for workout listeners intensifies.
Limited rollout begins
Running Mode is now available to Spotify Premium subscribers on iOS in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Sweden.
Spotify has not yet announced when the feature will expand to Android devices or additional markets.
