Bolt Send is now available in Owerri, giving individuals and small businesses another way to move packages across the city directly through the Bolt app.

Bolt is expanding its package delivery service in Nigeria with the launch of Bolt Send in Owerri, Imo State.

The expansion allows residents and businesses in the city to request on-demand package deliveries through the Bolt app, bringing the service's Nigerian footprint to four cities.

Bolt Send is designed for people who need to move packages across a city without arranging separate transportation. Small businesses can also use the service to deliver customer orders locally.

How Bolt Send works

Customers can request a delivery directly through the Bolt app by:

  1. Selecting the Send option.
  2. Entering the package's pickup location.
  3. Providing the destination.
  4. Requesting a courier.
  5. Handing the properly packaged item to the courier for delivery.

The service can be used to transport everyday items such as documents, clothing, small gifts, personal belongings and small-business parcels.

Bolt originally launched Send in Nigeria in 2023, expanding its platform beyond passenger transportation into package delivery and logistics.

What can you send?

Bolt has guidelines governing what customers can transport through Send.

Allowed items include appropriately packaged:

  • Documents
  • Clothing
  • Small gifts
  • Personal belongings
  • Small business parcels

However, prohibited, hazardous, highly fragile and highly perishable items are not accepted.

Packages must also stay within Bolt's applicable 25kg weight limit and ₦50,000 value limit.

Customers are responsible for properly sealing and packaging their items and providing accurate pickup and delivery information.

Why the Owerri expansion matters

The expansion gives individuals another option for moving items around the city without having to travel themselves.

For small businesses, it could provide a relatively simple way to fulfil local orders without maintaining their own delivery fleet.

The move also shows Bolt's broader strategy of expanding beyond ride-hailing into urban mobility and logistics services.

With Owerri now added to the network, Bolt Send has reached four Nigerian cities, bringing its delivery infrastructure to more customers and businesses.
