Epiroc Expands Its African Mining Operations

Swedish mining equipment manufacturer Epiroc AB has completed its acquisition of Johannesburg-based Eventspec Proprietary Limited, strengthening its presence in South Africa's mining equipment and aftermarket services industry.

The deal brings Eventspec's engineering, manufacturing and repair capabilities into Epiroc's equipment and service business, giving the Swedish company greater local capacity to support mining customers in South Africa and potentially across other African markets.

The transaction received the required regulatory approvals, including clearance from the South African Competition Tribunal.

Why Eventspec Matters to Epiroc

Eventspec has built its business around the mining aftermarket, providing replacement components, equipment rebuilding and field repair services.

That segment is particularly important to mining companies because equipment failures can lead to costly interruptions in production.

The acquisition was completed through Epiroc's South African corporate structure.

Epiroc SPV, together with Evrypart, acquired control of Eventspec's operating business.

Separately, Epiroc Holdings South Africa took control of the intellectual property associated with the business.

The transaction will be reflected within Epiroc's service revenue.

Competition Tribunal Approval

The deal was subject to regulatory review by South Africa's Competition Tribunal.

Approval was granted with conditions relating to public-interest commitments.

These include requirements connected to ownership, skills development, enterprise and supplier development, socio-economic development, education and training.

The conditions are intended to ensure that the acquisition delivers benefits beyond the commercial interests of the companies involved.

Eventspec Brings Local Expertise

Eventspec was established in 2000 and has developed expertise in mining equipment aftermarket services, component manufacturing, machinery rebuilds and field repairs.

The company employs around 125 people in South Africa and reported revenue of approximately R280 million in 2025.

Its experience in supporting mining equipment gives Epiroc access to an established local team and operational infrastructure.

Epiroc's Global Position

Headquartered in Nacka, Sweden, Epiroc is a global supplier of equipment and technology for the mining and infrastructure industries.

Its product portfolio includes drilling equipment, loaders, haulage systems and technologies focused on automation and electrification.

The company was established as an independent business following its separation from Atlas Copco in 2018.

The Eventspec acquisition adds a specialised aftermarket and manufacturing capability to that wider portfolio.
