Standard Bank has successfully structured a €456 million financing package for Genser Energy Investments, providing fresh capital to support the company’s next phase of energy infrastructure development across West Africa.

The deal sees Standard Bank act as the mandated lead arranger, lender, and facility agent, reinforcing its role in financing large-scale infrastructure projects that support economic growth across the continent.

Funding to Support Strategic Expansion

The financing package is designed to help Genser Energy complete key Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects while providing additional financial flexibility for future expansion plans.

The investment is expected to strengthen energy infrastructure in West Africa, improve power reliability for industrial users, and support regional economic development.

Standard Bank also managed the foreign exchange requirements associated with the transaction, helping facilitate the implementation of the project.

Genser Energy’s Growing Footprint

Founded in 2006, Genser Energy is a privately owned energy infrastructure company focused on delivering power solutions across West Africa.

The company currently operates:

  • More than 334 megawatts (MW) of installed power generation capacity
  • A 436-kilometre private natural gas pipeline network in Ghana
  • Energy supply operations serving industrial customers and utilities
  • Cross-border electricity exports into Côte d’Ivoire

Genser’s infrastructure plays a significant role in supporting industrial activities and energy access in the region.

Building on an Existing Partnership

The latest financing package expands an already established relationship between Standard Bank and Genser Energy.

In 2025, Standard Bank supported:

  • A $428 million corporate refinancing transaction for Genser Energy Ghana
  • A €200 million equipment financing facility for Genser Energy Côte d’Ivoire

The new €456 million package represents another milestone in the partnership as Genser continues expanding its regional operations.

Supporting Energy Growth in West Africa

Energy infrastructure remains one of the most important requirements for industrial growth across Africa.

Reliable power supply continues to be a challenge for many businesses, making investments in generation capacity, natural gas infrastructure, and regional energy integration increasingly important.

The financing is expected to support projects that strengthen energy security while creating opportunities for industrial expansion across West Africa.

Standard Bank’s Infrastructure Financing Strategy

The transaction highlights Standard Bank’s continued focus on financing strategic infrastructure projects across the continent.

By supporting companies involved in energy production, transportation, and distribution, the bank aims to contribute to sustainable economic growth while helping address Africa’s infrastructure gaps.

As demand for reliable energy continues to rise across West Africa, investments such as this are expected to play an important role in supporting long-term development and regional integration.
