Taara and Liquid Expand High-Speed Wireless Internet Across Nigeria
Over the past two years, Liquid has deployed nearly a dozen Taara Lightbridge wireless links across Lagos, enabling enterprises to access reliable, high-capacity internet connections. The technology has also enhanced network resilience for internet service providers, banks, hotels, utility companies, and other businesses by providing an alternative route when fiber networks experience outages or damage.
As demand for reliable broadband continues to grow, network operators are increasingly adopting a combination of fiber and wireless technologies to improve coverage and reduce service disruptions. Unlike conventional fiber installations that often require trenching and lengthy construction work, Taara's solution uses highly focused beams of light to transmit data through the air, allowing new connections to be established in a matter of hours or days.
The technology is particularly valuable in densely populated cities and challenging terrains where laying fiber infrastructure can be costly or operationally difficult. By complementing existing fiber networks rather than replacing them, Taara enables businesses to access high-speed internet more quickly while improving overall network reliability.
Following successful deployments in Lagos, Liquid Intelligent Technologies is now exploring opportunities to expand the technology to other major Nigerian cities, including Abuja, Ibadan, and Kano, as part of efforts to strengthen digital infrastructure nationwide.
According to Eugene Uka, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Liquid Intelligent Technologies Nigeria, one of the biggest advantages of the technology is its rapid deployment capability. He noted that while fiber remains essential, it is not always practical in every location, making wireless optical communication an effective solution for extending connectivity to underserved or difficult-to-reach areas.
Taara's Regional Lead for Africa, Bhavesh Mistry, also emphasized that growing demand for digital services requires network operators to adopt more flexible infrastructure strategies. He explained that wireless optical communication provides an additional layer of network capacity and resilience, enabling service providers to reach customers faster without sacrificing performance.
The Taara Lightbridge platform can deliver internet speeds of up to 20 Gbps across distances of 20 kilometers using invisible beams of light. Because it does not require spectrum licensing or extensive civil engineering work, the technology offers a faster and more cost-effective way to bridge connectivity gaps.
Currently deployed in more than 20 countries, Taara's technology supports major operators, including T-Mobile, Airtel, Digicel, Liquid Intelligent Technologies, and SoftBank, reinforcing its growing role in expanding reliable broadband access across urban, rural, and remote communities worldwide.
