Spotify is making hands-free listening more convenient for iPhone users by allowing them to ask Siri to play music and other audio without having to say “on Spotify” at the end of every request.

The change allows users to give more natural voice commands, whether they want to listen to a particular song, resume a podcast, find an audiobook or start a personalised music session. Spotify’s support documentation says the simplified experience works with iOS 27 and Apple Intelligence-enabled Siri, although availability depends on device, language and region.

How Spotify’s Siri Integration Works

Previously, users often had to specify Spotify by name to ensure Siri opened the correct music service. For example, someone might say, “Hey Siri, play my workout playlist on Spotify.”

With the updated experience, users can simply say, “Hey Siri, play my workout playlist,” and Siri can route the request to Spotify when it recognises the user’s preferred music app.

The feature is designed to make voice commands feel more natural by reducing the need for extra instructions. It is particularly useful when users are driving, exercising, cooking or otherwise unable to interact with their phones directly.

More Than Playing Songs

The integration extends beyond requesting individual tracks. Users can ask Siri to play albums, playlists, podcasts and other supported audio content, as well as request recommendations or start Spotify’s DJ feature.

Spotify also supports voice controls for common listening actions, including skipping tracks, adjusting volume, pausing playback and saving music to a user’s library.

Spotify’s broader focus on conversational listening is also visible within its own app. In July 2026, the company introduced a beta experience that lets eligible Premium subscribers speak or type requests directly to Spotify to discover music, explore listening history and learn more about songs, podcasts and audiobooks. That in-app feature is separate from Siri integration.

What iPhone Users Need to Know

The simplified Siri experience is not necessarily available to every iPhone user. Spotify’s support page identifies iOS 27 or later, Apple Intelligence enabled in settings, and a compatible device as requirements for the Apple Intelligence version of Siri.

Spotify lists the iPhone 15 Pro or later among the supported iPhones for this experience, and notes that Siri with Apple Intelligence is not available in every country or region. Users who cannot access the feature may still need to include “on Spotify” in their requests.

Users should also make sure their Spotify app is up to date and check their Apple Intelligence and Siri settings if commands are not working as expected.

Why This Matters for Music Streaming

The update highlights how music services are competing to make listening easier through voice assistants and personalised discovery. Removing extra words from voice commands may seem like a small change, but it reduces friction between what users want to hear and how they access it.

For Spotify, smoother integration with Siri could make the service more convenient for people who rely on Apple devices, while reinforcing the value of features such as personalised playlists, podcasts, audiobooks and its AI-powered DJ experience.

However, the improvement depends on Apple’s supported devices, software and regional availability. It should not be interpreted as a guarantee that every iPhone user can immediately use the feature.

The biggest benefit is convenience. People should be able to ask for the music they want without having to remember a specific command format every time. Spotify’s Siri integration moves the experience closer to that expectation, but access to Apple Intelligence remains an important limitation for users in unsupported regions or on older devices.
